Study abroad in Jacó
Take a Spanish course in Jacó, a popular surfing spot well-known for its kilometers of gorgeous beaches.
Jacó has become an increasingly popular holiday spot over the last decade, but this has not spoilt the laid-back charm of this surf village. As it is close to the Costa Rican capital San José, it is also a popular destination with locals. As a result, don't be misled by the town's population of 5,000, you will find that there are actually up to 20,000 people here during high season!
Although surfers of all abilities are drawn to the area's beaches, Jacó is a particularly popular spot for beginners because of its smaller waves to the south. Renting a board for the day is not expensive and there are a huge variety of beaches in the region that are worth exploring.
The village of Jacó is surrounded by green hills and tropical plants. For those interested in nature, the Manuel Antonio national park is very close by. Here you can find unspoilt rainforest, coral reefs and white sandy beaches. Within Jacó itself, there are plenty of fantastic restaurants, bars, cafes and clubs, so when you aren’t at the beach or exploring the countryside, there are plenty of places to relax over a cool drink in the afternoon or let you hair down at night.
During her language course in Costa Rica the Swiss Olympic snowboarder Najda Purtschert travelled with Yalea Languages and Sudden Rush to Jacó to learn Spanish and to improve her surfing skills. Find out more about her trip and get inspiration for your own language learning adventure!
