Study Portuguese in Lisbon, Portugal's hilly capital on the Atlantic coast.
With its scenic seven hills, Lisbon is filled with winding cobbled streets and historical buildings. Enjoy the beautiful views over the Rio Tejo from one of the many miradouros (viewpoints) or admire the pretty houses and vibrant street art during a tram ride round the city. The oldest part of the city, the Alfama, is filled with spectacular architecture and museums, such as the Museu Gulbenkian, and in the suburb of Belém you can find the landmark 16th-century Torre de Belém.
Lisbon really comes alive at night, being filled with fantastic restaurants and bars. You can try delicious fresh seafood such as the local specialty bacalhau (dried and salted cod) or sip cocktails in some of Bairro Alto’s trendy bars and clubs.
A short journey away is Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can find some extravagant royal palaces. From Lisbon you can also easily reach some of Portugal's Atlantic coast beaches such as in the resort towns of Estoril and Cascais.
