Study abroad in San Francisco
The sea, the fog, the bridges and its hilly suburbs are what San Francisco is known for. The steep hills and cable cars will enchant visitors from first sight, and the multicultural neighborhoods, strong hippie culture and many parks will be what visitors fall in love with.
San Francisco enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with relatively mild winters and warm summers. The proximity to the bay characterizes so much of the city’s climate. From Twin Peaks hills, the magnificent view of the San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz will take your breath away (if they are not shrouded in the ever famous San Francisco Bay fog). Visitors to San Francisco will never have a shortage of attractions to visit. Apart from the well known tourist attractions of Alcatraz, the zig-zagging Lombard Street, the cable cars and Fisherman’s Warf, visits to other areas such as Chinatown, Alamo Park, Ocean Beach and the Golden Gate Park can be enjoyed by all. A visit to the breathtaking Yosemite National Park and other cities can also be done easily from San Francisco.
San Francisco is a melting pot of people from many different backgrounds. As the gateway to Silicon Valley it plays a strong part in the Californian and United States economy, with many financial institutions and start ups based here. San Francisco has a bustling downtown business district, but it is the diverse neighborhoods with their mixture of restaurants, bars, cafes, jazz clubs and night life such as Haight and Castro where the liberal and progressive atmosphere which San Francisco is famous for can really be recognized. San Francisco is characterized by its diverse population and progressive LGBT attitudes, and the annual Pride parade held in June of each year is no better celebration of this.
The sometimes surprising mix of cultures in San Francisco make it an ideal place for students to take an English course in a truly unique destination.
